 Walkin' After Midnight

Nighttime had fallen over the darkened castle that stood, hidden from the Muggle world. Stars shined over this castle and the full moon glowed brightly in the dark navy sky. Owls hooted and crickets chirped. Werewolves howled and nighttime creatures prowled around in the dark. The castle was the one and only Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and all its inhabitants were asleep, dreaming of horrible nightmares about Death Eaters or lovely and pleasant dreams. Well, most of them were.

Kevin Willis, the Gryffindor fifth year, was bored that night as he laid in bed. He needed something exciting to do, something fun and exciting to do. Kevin didn’t feel like sleeping. It just didn’t interest him at the time. Kevin glanced at his watch. '12:30' it read. Well, he could go sneaking around the empty corridors to find some adventure. Maybe he should. Maybe he shouldn't. What if he got caught? But what if he didn't? If he did, he would get points taken off and a dreadful detention. If he didn’t, he would get a wonderful adventure exploring the night and he would get away with it. It took a while for him to decide, but Kevin had made his decision.

About thirty or forty minutes later, Kevin was out in the shadowy corridors, holding a bright lantern to guide his way. Every now in then, he would jump and turn around if he heard something, but he would always discover it was nothing at all but something hitting a window pane or a rat crossing the corridor floor. Very soon, he found out this exploring at night wasn’t so great at all. A little fright here, a little terror there, but nothing really happened. Kevin partially wished he was still back in bed, relaxed and sleeping, instead of walking through the corridor with a fearful look in his eyes. But Kevin continued to go through the corridor. He didn't know this, but he was walking through the dark, creepy Forbidden Corridor on the third floor during this very night.

Ever since Divine had heard about the Forbidden Corridor on her first day at Hogwarts, she had decided she would explore it someday. But all these years, she had never gathered the courage to go and walk down the creepy corridor. But this night was different. This night, she was determined to explore the third floor corridor. She had asked all of her friends but no one would come with her. So she decided to go on her own.

She was looking here and there at the dusty, cob-webbed statues, with the help of her wand. She had lighted it with the lumos spell which was quite easy for her as she was a 4th year now. She was walking as she saw a bright lantern bobbing up and down at the end of the corridor, not too far away from where she was. I hope its not Filch, if he catches me, I'll be DEAD. She walked a bit closer to the figure and observed that it was not Filch. Then again, she might be just guessing as the figure was not walking like Filch, but it could have been him. She said softly in a trembling voice,"W-Who's there?"

Kevin felt that his hearing for some reason was getting more sensitive by the second. He could hear mice and rats crawling across the hallway floor much more loudly now. He could hear the wind rustle and bang against near side windows perfectly now. And best of all, he could hear footsteps much more clearly now, which he could use to his advantage. Maybe better hearing was a side effect to walking around in the shadowy corridors of the school for about an hour.

But at the same time, this “side effect” was also making his adventure through the night much more spookier and frightening than before. He could here wind blow through open windows along the corridor, making it sound like spirits or ghosts were haunting the area. Rustling of trees outside sounded more sinister than usual.

Kevin suddenly heard a voice behind him. He froze and suddenly dropped his lantern on the ground, which made a very loud crashing sound. Then all went dark. Kevin was so scared, he didn't notice that the voice sounded more like a girl's voice than an adult's, but his fears made him think their was a professor, or worst Filch, behind him.

"K-Ke-Kevin W-Wi-Willis," Kevin shuttered, looking behind him.

Divine heard the loud shattering of a lantern and relaxed a bit. It cannot be Filch, he himself is so scary that nothing in the world can scare him. But then she heard someone say what sounded like "Kevin Willis" in a stuttering voice. She thought, I have never heard his name in my year. What if he is a Prefect? Oops. But nevertheless, Divine lowered her wand a bit so that the light would not shine in his face. She walked closer to the sound and found a boy who looked slightly older than her, and let her wand illuminate both his and her face slightly. Wow, he is handsome. She thought to herself.

Kevin suddenly saw a light out of the darkness. The light shined on his face and another's face, a girl who looked about one year younger than himself.'Woah,' Kevin thought as he stared at the girl's face, 'She's actually very good lookin','

Divine suddenly shook her head slightly and offered her hand to the boy. "Hello, I am Divine." She said, smiling, the light shining on both her face and his.

"Oh, Nice to meet you too." Divine said as Kevin shook her hand. He is handsome. She thought looking at him. "So, What are you doing here in this forbidden corridor in the middle of the night?" She asked and smirked.

The door opened with a creak. Draik emerged from the hallway leading to the forbidden corrider, wand ablaze. On prefect duty, Draik was nearly as drawn to trouble as Filch. He had very good hearing, although he didn't need it to hear the loud shattering he had heard from two halls away. Sometimes his Head of House awarded him points when he caught more than one student. But this, in the forbidden corrider... He was sure to gain quite the number if he managed to race the trouble-makers down! Draik smirked as he realized what was going on- Kevin Willis flirting with Divine Kendvis. It was too much. He managed to suppress his hysterical laughter into a smirk all the same.

"Hello, ladies," Draik said, leaning against the wall just scant inches behind Divine. "Up to a little midnight slumber party?" In mock anger, he added, "Without me, the Slytherin Princ- uh, prefect?" He managed to catch his blunder with a clever cover up, if he did say so himself. Which, of course, he did. "Bit late, huh ladies? You know, what with my almighty position, I could deduct points from your house! But should I? Hmm..." Draik tapped his chin, stroking imaginary chin wiskers. Turning to Kevin, he asked, "What do you think, Kendra?"

Divine gulped. Uh-Oh, Please, let it not be him... She turned around to find Draiken Reed leaning on a wall, inches away from her. Goodbye house points, all the Gryffindors will hate me now. She hesitated a bit then whispered,"Um...I got lost..." Alright, that was really lame, what were you thinking? You are dead now, nothing can help you, unless ofcourse he changes his mind...which isn't possible in anyway...

Kevin spun around to see Draiken Reed, the rather annoying, idiotic Slytherin Prefect who Kevin had hated ever since day one. 'Oh great. Not him,' Kevin thought to himself, glaring at the Slytherin Prefect.

"Oh shut up," Kevin growled at Draik, digging into his pocket and holding his wand tightly, "Get lost, Draik!"
